Research Interests
Andrew has 18 years experience in quantum optics and quantum information. After doctoral work at the Australian National University and Universität Konstanz, Germany, Andrew worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA. He joined the University of Queensland in October 1999, where he established the
Quantum Technology Laboratory. Andrew is interested in exploring quantum mechanics, particularly by exploiting quantum information concepts and technologies.
He was a founding member of the Special Research Centre in 2000, and in his role as a Senior Researcher established experimental and theoretical capability in producing, analysing, and using photonic qubits. In 2003 Andrew was appointed Centre of Excellence manager of the Optical Quantum Computation program, which is aimed at meeting significant milestones towards the goal of realising Optical Quantum Computation, such as a functioning controlled-not (cnot) gate.
Andrew received the University of Queensland Foundation Research Excellence Award in 2004, is Deputy-Director of the Quantum Computing Concept Maturation Project in Optical Quantum Computing funded by the US Intelligence Advanced Research and Projects Agency, and in 2006 became an Australian Research Council
Federation Fellow.
