Research
Interests
I
am a Research Fellow in the Device Modeling Program, Centre for
Quantum Computer Technology at the University of Melbourne. I work
on a wide-range of different topics relating to Quantum Computing
(see research interests and publications, below), but my main interest
is in what can be done at the few qubit level. In this regard issues
such as qubit measurement, adiabatic transfer and single/entangled
photon generation have emerged as the most pertinent, although my
earlier work on nonlinear optics in electromagnetically induced
transparency systems is still an avenue of investigation.
I also
lecture part of the Third Year course - Standard Quantum Mechanics,
and lecture notes can be obtained on request for appropriate students.
My
research interests are in the understanding of quantum coherent
properties of matter. I have pursued this study experimentally and
theoretically, in a variety of media, initially in the N-V centre
of diamond (ANU), laser-cooled rubidium (Open) and now in solid-state
qubit systems.
At
present my research focuses on novel qubit readout methods, double-island
single-electron transistors, modelling of quantum computing architectures,
MOSFETs used for device characterisation, Hilbert space optimization,
and simulation of quantum computers. I also maintain links with
my previous work in laser-spectroscopy and coherent light-matter
interactions.
