ANDREW S. DZURAK

Professor School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications
Co-Director Semiconductor Nanofabrication Facility
Program Manager Integrated Quantum Computer Devices
NSW Node Manager
Centre For Quantum Computer Technology

Research Interests

Andrew has 20 years experience in the fabrication and measurement of quantum effects in semiconductor nanostructures. Following PhD and postdoctoral research in the Semiconductor Physics group at the University of Cambridge, Andrew moved to UNSW in 1994 to take up a Vice-Chancellor’s and then ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship. Andrew is Co-Director of the Semiconductor Nanofabrication Facility (SNF), which he established with Bob Clark in 1994-96. From 2007 he will coordinate the NSW Node of the Australian National Fabrication Facility, which will be hosted at UNSW. At SNF Andrew has established Australia’s highest resolution electron beam lithography capability, offering feature sizes down to 10 nanometres.

Andrew directs the Centre’s program in integrated silicon devices for the control and read-out of silicon qubits based upon phosphorus dopant atoms, configured using single ion implantation, in collaboration with Prof David Jamieson at the University of Melbourne. Key device components include high-efficiency PIN detectors for ion counting, aluminium and all-silicon single electron transistors for state readout, nano-Schottky contacts for spin-dependent tunneling, and nanoscale control electrodes. Related research includes Si:P quantum cellular automata devices and design of rf-CMOS low-temperature control electronics, the latter in collaboration with Prof Robert Clark and Dr Torsten Lehmann.

Andrew was a member of the Expert Steering Committee for the AAS Nanotechnology Benchmarking Project in 2004 and currently serves on the Selection Committee of the Cambridge Australia Trust.
